Avenging Sweeney Chapter 21

Chapter 21
Sandi was quiet. Quiet for a long time. Mrs.Lovett awaited a response anxiously. After sometime, Sandi finally spoke.
"This can't be true..." she said softly. She looked at her father, looking for an expression, looking for the truth.Anything would do. Sweeney didn't say anything. Sandi sighed. "How do i know that this is true? Why didn't you say anything?" She looked at both of them. "Why did Toby know?!?"
"To be fair, I only knew not long ago. Still don't know why the boy knows. "Sweeney said, Mrs Lovett said nothing. Sweeney was quiet now, he knew Sandra must be going through a lot right now. Without saying anymore, he crept to the doors and upstairs. Sandi looked back at Mrs. Lovett. If its true, why did you let me go? " Mrs Lovett took a deep breath.
"The night you were conceived, your father was drunk... He never knew.of you, or our relationship. He loved Lucy and i didn't want to ruin anything. " Clearly, she was upset, but she stood strong.
"Why did you give me up to that terrible place? "She said, referencing the orphanage.
"That wasn't my choice. The day your father was arrested, the day they came for Johanna, they found you and took you away from me. The day you were born, i made sure you got that "L" that stayed in our family...
Flashback
"They'll be here any moment..." Nellie said as she looked over at her tiny daughter. She smiled at her, she was about a year old. "You would love your daddy, Sandra. I promise, someday you will meet him, and he will believe you to be his Wife lucy and his daughter..." She handed her a photograph,it was of Benjamin Barker. In the back it read, never forget your father Benjamin Barker. "I'll just be known as your caretaker while Lucy is"away."her daughter, Sandra cooed happily." If anything ever happens, never forget Benjamin Barker" she told her.
"Benjamin Barker" Sandi replied in jabber suddenly,Nellie saw people approaching. Nellie.grabbed Sandra and put her behind the counter, and kissed her.head before.bolting upstairs. Johanna slept peacefully, as Nellie stuffed a box under the floorboards. She barely had enough time, as Beadle Bamford entered with Judge Turpin .
" Give us the girl. Turpin said as he walked to Johanna. The judge took the girl and walked out the door, Beadle following. The judge stopped, seeing a small girl on the ground playing.
"Take that to an orphanage. "
"shameful, leaving a child alone in such a place."  Beadle said. "You sure she isn't belonging to anyone here? " he continued.
"Likely not. Come." The judge said as he walked off, Johanna in arms. Beadle took Sandra, and she.began to scream and cry. Nellie gasps, running down, only to see, her little girl no where in sight.
Flashback end
Sandi processes the story she just was told over and over in her head. She looked down, and then to Mrs. Lovett. “Why didn’t you...Look for me?” She said softly.
“There wasn’t a day I stopped searching, or wondering.”  Mrs. Lovett started “Even when I was hard at work, I thought about my little girl, who isn’t so little anymore.”  She smiled sadly.
“Why didn’t you want to tell me?” Sandi came right out and asked.
“I never planned on telling anyone...But bloody Mr. Todd figured it out…” SHe sighed. “I would have been fine if he’d only thought you were Lucy’s.”
“But...Why?” Sandi looked at her, then looked down. “Is it because you were ashamed in me? “
Mrs. Lovett took Sandi’s shoulders. “Look at me. I’ve never been ashamed of you, love.”
“Then why would you do that?”  She said.
Mrs Lovett smiled weakly. “Because, I was hoping that at least you could get the love I always longed for from Mr. Todd.”  
Sandi blushed at this comment, she must have really loved her father, but honestly, it was puzzling to why she did the things she did.  She just nodded and Mrs. Lovett got nervous.
“I’m sorry dear, I can’t expect you to be happy with me right now but-”
Sandi stopped her. “It’s okay...But for now, I just need some time to think about somethings.” She said softly and Mrs. Lovett nodded. Sandi smiled softly at her and kissed her mother’s cheek, she was hesitant at first, but finally went through with it. She left the pie shop and Mrs. Lovett sighed. “Could have been worse…” She said to herself.
“Does this mean we’ll be a “happy family” someday?” Toby asked as Mrs. Lovett jumped.
“Toby! How long have you been there!?”
“...The whole time?”
Mrs. Lovett sighed. “What am I to do with you?” she said, walking him into the parlor of the downstairs.

A young figure lurks in the shadows around 186 fleet street, probably like one of the many ghosts in the streets in which Sweeney referred to.  All that is known of this young figure is his gender. The young adult looked straight towards the shops belonging to Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett staring intently. He watched a shadow move upstairs in the giant window, back and forth.
“Mr. Sweeney Todd, eh?” He said, watching more. “Is it possible that you are him? The one I’ve been searching for?” He asked himself. “It’s too late to find out now...But tomorrow is a great day to start…” He smiled darkly, as the light in the window was blown out by Sweeney, leaving now the entire Fleet street in darkness...
